I was a little afraid to research this any more, but here's what happened. Mom works at an elementary school, and she was in her room preparing for next week. She gets on her computer and starts removing some emails when she suddenly gets lots of crap on her desktop. Oh, I should mention the school runs basically all macs, don't know about their servers...
Anyway, she calls me down there. She has all this crap like turtle.gif, smut.gif, viagra.gif, and basically about any word you can think of .gif. I get rid of them all, then glace over to her assistance's computer who also had a desktop full of that crap Realize again, mom didn't see this until she started clearing her emails...My main question, does anyone know what this is? If so, might she of infected all the computers? I don't know too much about Macintosh virus's and I was afraid to dig around too much to see what she'd deleted...

Seems like she opened the emails to see what they were, and got some kind of malware or similar.

My thought is that opening the emails on one machine spread their payload to other computers on that same server. With mac viruses, only God knows how they work, but logic tells me that's what happened here.

Yeah sounds like something which is on the server more than your mom infecting other computers. I dont think she couls just open an email/attachment and have the contents spread onto another computer or the net work. Maybe if she stored that email on the network storage then she might have done something there, but it seems to me it might be something on the server. More than likely the server is pc and thats why it is spreading the problem so easily...

I know there are some virus's out there for macs. I mean, there are even Virus's for the PDAs. Realize, only about 7 currently found, but they're out there
![]() As for infecting the server, I was wondering that... That is also why I mentioned not knowing what the servers were. Wouldn't be hard if it was a PC

What are you going to do then Other? Clean all the school's computers.
You should try to find a e-mail filter of some sort or tell her to look more closely at them.
