Default help, won t do first reboot!

Hi! i ve changed my broken hard drive on a Toshiba Satellite labtob. A store did it so i guess it was prperly done. At home I ve insert the recovery CD from Toshiba with Window XP. all the process of installation went well . i ve done that several times before and it was exactly the same process i had to go through till i reached the message "remove any cd or floppy and then press any key to continue..."
i pressed any key after having removed the cd... then came the window with the Toshiba logo and the info "press f2 for set up, press f12 foor boot device ctrl" but then came the usual black screen with "WINDOWS XP" and the status bar just under mentionning it s rebooting...and then instead of getting the blue screen asking me to follow the steps of settings the preferences on my computer with the nice little music...the black screen with "WINDOWS XP"
and the status stayed there forever.
i ve redid the entire process like 5 times and it s always the same result. if i simply shut down my compuer and start it again...the same thing happens...the Toshiba logo..then the black screen with "WINDOWS XP"
and the status bar...and that stays there forever, don t reboot... etc...help please X

Installation cd covered with finger smudges or scratches(highly possible), bad cable for hard drive or cd drive, failing cd or hard drive defect(possible), or simply some other reason why one or more files didn't copy to the hard drive to complete the installation are things to consider here.

Was the installation disk one included with purchase of the labtop or one you bought later? The strongest thought that comes on this is the hard drive swap where the original recovery partition is now missing. That went along with the old drive and you mau have to contact Toshiba support to get a download link in order to create a recovery disk for that. What that type of disk used to format the drive all necessary drivers and softwares are then hidden in the new recovery partition while XP goes onto the visible one.

thank you 4 your help. Installation cd is not really covered with finger smudges or scratches and leads me to the final step when i have to remove it...
hard drive or cd drive are inside the computer and not connected with cable i guess exept if you are talking about a defectuous connection inside the computer but both drives(cd or hard drive) seems to be ok since the process of recovery went on 99% with all the steps indicated on the screen..

the installation disk IS the one included with purchase of the labtop ...

What is the model number on that portable? Often you can go through the FAQ section at a manucturer's support site when having installation or other problem getting Windows running. Did the store do anything other then just install the new drive? If someone simply threw the drive in without checking the jumper setting on the back of the drive(usually shipped cable select by default) that would certainly start causing problems.

When they replaced your Hard Drive did they copy your XP on to the new Drive. If not and the Drive is blank just a Recovery CD is not going to get you there. You will need a full install XP cd

It depends on what recovery disk you are referring to. A Windows recovery disk is one you boot off to start the installer while a full install disk or disk set will allow the use of prepared floppies to start the installation.

Default Toshiba satellite p25 Series

Toshiba satellite p25 Series(p25 S607)
i ll chek at the manufacturer FAQ to see if i get any info but i doubt.
when they ve replaced my harddrive they didn t copy anything on it, i guess.
the guy told me i had to re-install from Tohiba Recovery and Appl./driver DVD.
that s what i intended. It has window Xp on it. It erases everything from C and D and they re is a status bar indicating the install process. it takes like 15 mins till it reaches 100%... but then occurs the problem befor rebooting...the window XP screen stays there...with the color bar beneeth indicating the process is on but i never reach the next step...

I found one support link for user guides at http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...ceghdgngdgnn.0

The main support page for the model you list here is at http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...odel&x=19&y=11
