alright its like this...i rip tons of dvds using nero and like to multi task while doing it, i have an amd athlon 64 3500+ running on a 939 platform. im wondering if changing over to an amd athlon 64 3800, 4200, or 4400 x2 would make a significant differance. or, considering the things that i stated i want to do should i switch platforms and go with a pentium d 940. will it rip my dvds alot faster?..and also does the frequency of the cpu hold significance of any kind, whats its role in performance? thanks for the info and help

switching to an X2 from what you have now, would make a huge difference...
if would not make DVD burning faster, but will probably make a difference when you are encoding video frequency of a CPU is not mattering as much these days. The X2's look low in CPU frequency, but they are dual cores and AMD chips have lower frequencies, but operate faster than their frequencies...

Stranglehold is right. If you get the X2 4200+, the difference in most apps will be very small, since they run at the same clock speed. The only time you would notice a significant improvement would be if you're using multi-threaded apps.
