USB not recognizing problems

Here is my problem. My computer will work fine with some camera's and usb drives and whatnot, but others it wont. Recently would be my samsung camcorder that it wont work with. This is after installing any drivers from the company mind you. It will detect the samsung device and then it will have some trouble installing the drivers and it wont work. I had the same problem with a dell DJ mp3 player. These devices will work on other computers also, just not this one. Anyone have any ideas? I'm open to pretty much anything at this point.

You have two main problems there. "The machine is a eMachines T2542 running XP home SP1". EMachines is rather on the low end of things as far as complete systems bought retail. The second item is the improved support and security fixes included in Service Pack 2. The need for a bios update or a look at the settings to see if anything is disabled is one thought to add.
