Unhappy built in laptop speakers not working

comp. specs

HP Pavilion dv6139us(dv6000)
1.73 GHz Intel® Centrino® Duo
(T2250)
Altec Lansing(built in speakers)

Conexant High Definition Audio Driver(all i could find out as far as what kind of sound hardware, onboard)

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...304213&lang=en

so

i had my laptop hooked up to external speakers and i was playing music with a USB keyboard for about 2 hours.

after removing the cord from the headphone jack, my built in speakers did not reactivate

i plugged the external speakers back in, and the audio was messed up
(sound will only come out of the left speaker, and anything louder the 44% on the volume causes major crackling)
i also plugged in headphones and the same thing happens, so i know its not the speakers that are messed up.

i went to HP's support site and found a updater for the driver i have

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...os=228&lang=en

and i found out that the update fixes a simular problem..

"Fixes issue where the notebook speakers do not work after headphones or earphones are used for a while and then unplugged."

however the update did not fix anything...

ive tried: deleting the driver all together and reinstalling,
rolling back, other drivers, and restoring the computer to earlier date
but once i get the audio working again its the same thing

i want to make sure that there was no other way to fix this, before trying to mail my computer off to have it fixed, also i cant afford to have my laptop gone for 2-3 weeks
