I did a little more research and found this which is pretty helpful: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/..._64/index.html

From all the benchmarks the core 2 duo blows away all of AMD's processors. There werent any benchmarks for the e6400...but do you guys think the e6400 could outperform a x2 4600(or 4800), since they're about in the same price range. Also, yes I do have money for a new motherboard.

Yes I think anandtech did a review of the lower priced Core 2 Duo the E6300 and E6400. The E6400 in most cases outpreformed the 5000+ and even sometimes the FX-62. However if you decide to overclock the E6400 you can come close to the performance of the Core 2 Duo x6800 quite easily apparently.

with overclocking you can easily increase the performance of your conroe, as they are good over clockers. i would definately get one over the amd equivalents it is not worth an fx 62 any more in my opinion (unless you must have the unlocked multipliers)

I would go AMD all the time, but its true. The new Conroes destroy AMD's Dual core Processors and their FX series of cpus.Buy the conroe dude, you'll be glad you did.People posted benchmarks, skim them and see.
