Default iexplorer.exe - Application Error

When my m8 is surfing the net all is well apart from sometimes when he closes a window it comes up with a ERROR box saying

"iexplorer.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x0197cd11" referenced memory at 0x0197cd11". The memory could not be "read".

Clock on OK to terminate the program.

Is there anything i can do to stop this ?

Any help will be much aprichiated, cheers ppl.

Gee? You ran into an oldie there alright. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=269446 refers to Java scripts.

The main troubleshooting page for IE 6.0 with several articles is found at http://support.microsoft.com/ph/2073...3&GSA_AC_More3

The first article regards IE 5.0 in context there but advises clicking the refresh button on the explorer bar when seeing this. If it doesn't refresh IE the stop button is next to it.

IE 6.0 is actually the one to stay with for XP. I ran right into headaches like several others with the beta 2 release. Currently the beta 3 is out. ???

There's no sure fire way to prevent errors from coming up in IE 6, Windows, or softwares you install. A spyware or virus can make your life just as miserable as a IE glitch. One lengthy article on customizing IE 6 can be reviewed at http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/ie6/index.shtml

For a list of common errors seen in IE go to http://www.colba.net/~hlebo49/erriexpl.htm

For XP tweaks and repairs in general a pair of links here can help at times too.

You are certainly welcome. If for some reason you find that a reinstallation of IE 6 is needed you can download the IE 6.0 Service Pack 1 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

With many reporting problems with the IE 7 beta versions it's a good idea to save a copy to keep onhand. Burn it to cd along with other updates if you need to reinstall it sseparately from Windows. SP 2 already includes it if Windows itself has to be reinstalled at some point.
