I just happen to favor 4x4s from the looks of things. A new line of Opteron cpus will see that along with desktop models. When you build a gaming case you want the extra OCing can bring. But when you want a work horse stability comes in there. A small server case that doesn't bog everything down is something for the dsl router here. That would running 24/7.

I,m not that impressed with Intel. AMD has had the faster chip Mhz vs. Mhz since the K6-2+ and K6-III+ think that was 1999. So finally the big money house Intel makes some processors faster than AMD, took 7 YEARS. AMD will make a come back, mabe not in a few months, bet it wont be 7 Years and after that it will take Intel another 7 years to cautch up again!!

As far as I know, Intel has only had the insanely high clock speeds in the P4 era. Which may be what you're saying...

Any Intel since 1999 is beat by AMD Mhz vs. Mhz. Show me ONE intel that beats AMD Mhz to Mhz other than the Core 2 Duo since 1999

Well from the stand point here AMD has done far better then just performance to top Intel. How often do you hear of an AMD cpu that quit on it's own? Not too often! They make reliable products and that's what I stick with here. Both AMD and Microsoft will provide patches like the X2 line for instance if any performance problems arise. AMD won here already I see!

You would need to look over all models and the specifications on each one along with performance reviews in the last several years to make an accurate comparison. The process there would also have to see the same OS, memory, softwares, and things like video and sound for multimedia too. Under ideal circumstances "some" Intel models might have beat an AMD model depending on which models you are comparing. A P3 or P4 to a K5? or Duron maybe?

i'd get the core 2 duo, but if you dont plan on overclocking then get the athlon 64 X2... just because there are more motherboards compatible with it... and because performance won't be a TON different. theyre both very good processors. the core 2 duo definitely has a lot more potential as far as overclocking goes.

Even without overclocking, I still say the conroe will beat the x2. But get teh e6400 its the same price as teh x2.
