Default Buying a New Computer - For Playing Games.

Hey there, I don't really know much about computers and the different parts that they are made and I would like to purchase a strong computer used mainly for games.

I have a budget of about 4000$ although I can deviate from it I would prefer not to because otherwise it will never end and the cost will just keep rising. Please don't ask me why I want to spend so much money on a computer, I posted this thread in another forum and it instantly turned into a discussion about how 'some people waste too much money on computers' and other discussions like that.

I did understand that there will soon be a new type of cards (DX?) and I realize that they will be stronger then the current cards that are in the market today but I would like to purchase a computer right now, I need it to be in my house by September 16th.

So basically I need a computer for 4000$ (give or take) for gaming. Sorry if I sounded a little harsh I just really need help and not have some discussion about "people wasting too much money on computers", if you are interested you can ask but please don't start flaming each other.

Another thing I understood is that when it comes to CPUs Intel is the way to go. (Conroe?)

Thanks for the help.

I have a rather expensive 24" Dell screen which goes up to resolutions of 2560x1600 so there's no need for a monitor. Speakers are also not needed, but I would like to recieve a new Mouse and a Keyboard.

Have you considered building yourself? If not I would stick to a smaller company like ibuypower since your looking for a gaming machine. Either way $4000 can get you a great computer. Actually.. it'll get you a killer computer.

Oh, I was reffering to a custom computer.

I don't really want to buy a prebuilt computer, so what I'm asking is actually for you to suggest a custom build for me.

think about it... 2 7900GTs:
7900+7900=15800
that is obviously a much higher number than 7950...

Cpu- Core 2 duo X6800
CD/DVD Burner- samsung 18x DVD+R
HDD-WD Raptor 74GB 10,000Rpm (for OS)
HDD- Seagate baraccuda 750GB 7200Rpm (for storage)
Video card- NVidia 7950GX2
Sound card- audigy2 ZS platinum
keyboard- Saitek eclipse
Mouse- Logitech G5 laser
MOBO- ASUS PB5
OS- MS XP SP2 3-pack
RAM-OZC Platinum 2 GB
Case- NZXT Lexa
PSU- coolmax 500Watt

comes out to be $3602.24 before shipping. the reason i put link for CPU on tigerdirect instead of newegg is because newegg is out of stock.

Input from me:
1. Get an X-fi sound card instead of the Audigy 2
2. Why a three pack of Windows?
3. Rambo's motherboard (Gigabyte 965P DS-3) has been known to reach higher FSBs than the ASUS. I know the X6800 has unlocked multipliers, but the higher FSB, the better performance all around.
4. Why the Coolmax PSU? An expensive computer deserves a high quality power supply.
