I'm new to servers and I was wondering what are some of the best practices/ tools/ sources for maintaining and keeping your servers healthy?

Well it does kind of depend on what kind of server it is and what it's going to be used for. I.e. if it's a file server or webserver you could run a Linux OS on it, or if it was a game server things would be different etc. etc.
