I just set up a old XP pro box as a file server . Any special tips for Hardware or Software to help along the way .

I will be using this on a small network (3-4 PC's) to share data files and programs

Actually it's a Old Micronpc Millennia
Specs so far

1Gig Athlon
384 MB DDR Ram
20 Gig Drive for OS
40 Gig Data drive (120 or 200 Gig to come later)
100Mbps NIC
LG 12X 8X 32X CDRW (will put in my LG DVDRW later)

A high speed SATA drive normaly does the trick. GB Network Card (PCI card) or MIMO wireless.

Im gussing as it is a old comp SATA might not be an idea.

I would say keep the ammount of rnning processes low and grab server 2003 or 02. Lunix also has a server based but I do nnot know how good it actully is.
