As with any duel core, you have two cores, so basically 2 processors. So yes, you have two 2.4GHz cores in some processors. This does not equal 4.8GHz in any way. Under many circumstances, the a duel core is no faster, perhaps even slower than a single core at equal speeds. Your only real advantages are in multitasking and games that can utilize both cores.

If we are comparing the same processors, like pentium 4 and pentium D or AMD 64 and AMD 64 X2, then i believe that statement would be incorrect. In many cases the dual core would actually be faster. Depending really one what your using it for. Gaming wise, it pry wont make a bit of difference unless the game has a dual core patch, even then pry not. However in multitasking, cpu intense programs, and things such as those the dual core would perform much better. Im not sure how you think a dual core would be any slower then a single core at the same speed.
