Screen capture to AVI

Hi all!

I want to create a video of my desktop and export it into AVI or some other video file format. Do U know any softver that can do it for me for free.
I hope U know. Google did not help me... :S

One more thing.. Do U know a freeware equivalent for this software? I cant pay so much for a hobby.

you could use fraps which is free for 30 secs and does a good job.
