Default Heya

Sure you can. There are plenty of small Linux distros. However, the computer in question has to allow the option to boot from USB devices. Without it, booting from it will not be possible.

I want to put Ubuntu or Xubuntu, mostly Xubuntu because it can run on low end computers. Would those be good distros? If not which one do you suggest?

Default Yeah

From what I know, those distros are among the most used. If you wish to experiment a bit, SLAX is also pretty good.
