Default Windows 2000 Server

I would like to transform one of my desktop computers into a server computer. I am new to servers, and know I need something like Windows 2000 server or similar. I just want a place to store my motocross videos without having them all on my main computer. The computer I want to make a server has a 250GB hd. Which I large enough for my purposes. So I think this would be good use of my spare computer. Can I tranfer them from the good computer to my server wireless via my linksys router? Also Does Windows 2000 Server have a wizard or something like that to set up the network? Thanks for reading.

Yes, it does have a wizard for setting up a file server, so you're ok there. It should work wirelessly. I can't see why not.

you can do the same thing with 2000 pro or XP pro. As for sharing files you will see no advantage with 2000 server. Unless you require more then 10 connections to the server both server and pro will function identicaly. (xp pro is limted to 10 file sharing connections, server is not)

If you are intent to learn, buy a microsoft action pack. I paid 300$ and got server 2003, office 2003, exchange, isa, sql, xp pro, ..... and many more (big microsoft binder with software) ITs the same as the MSDN kit but less stuff and no sdk's
