The only review seen on the comparison between a Core 2 Dou E6600 and an AMD Socket AM2 4600+ X2 2.4ghz cpu was where the C2 was on an Intel board while the AMD model was installed on a low end make board. Obviously an Intel cpu on an Intel board is going to look better. Reviews often "favor" one side or the other and are often too biased. Plus between AMD and Intel cpus a different board would be needed for each.
The word on a new line of AMD-ATI cards places the R500 and R600(mobile) lineup cards as those that kick the latest NVidia 8800 as well as X1950 ATI models out of the arena. These will be DX10 cards as well as the successive NVidia models that will be coming out sooner or later. If you are worried about costs wait awhile before going with Vista. DX 9L is supposed to allow DX10 games to run on XP. DX10 can't? So far no DX10 release found at MS.
