could somebody who knows a little about ipods help me? i have my settings in itunes for my ipod to "manually manage songs and playlists". the problem is that i don't know how to create a playlist manually through itunes. for some reason, the playlists that i have on the ipod don't show up in itunes, and i've searched, but there is no way of expanding the ipod selection in the "source" column. now, i don't want to switch the options so that it automatically updates b/c i don't have any songs stored in my library on my computer, and i know that they will all be deleted off of my ipod if i switch it. any ideas?

In iTunes, there is a plus sign in the bottom left-hand corner. This will allow you to create a new playlist, and name it whatever you would like. To add songs to this playlist, just drag and drop the new songs...
To add a playlist from the iPod to iTunes, drag the playlist from under the iPod and drop it in the general window, and vice versa for going from iTunes to the iPod.

yeah, i know, but the thing is, it doesn't put the playlist under the ipod, it only keeps it in the library. the only thing that itunes shows from the ipod is the music, it doesn't show any of the playlists that exist on it. does anybody know why?

Hmm..., are you sure the playlists are on the iPod? Any time that I plug in my iPod, it will display the playlists on the iPod in iTunes. If you don't see it, there may be a drop-down menu available which would show/hide the available playlists.

no. it's weird, cuz usually there's supposed to be an arrow that you push to view the dropdown menu, but there is nothing. the playlists are ON the ipod, like, i can listen to the ones that i made before i started having this problem, but there is no way that i can view them on itunes. i can't even drag playlists to the ipod in the column. i have it, in my options, so that i am SUPPOSED to be able to manage the playlists manually, but it's not working...

Do you have all of your files on the iPod backed up or saved in some way? It might be a good idea to just wipe the entire thing and start over...

ahhhhhh! i was hoping i wouldn't have to do that. i've done it, like, a hundred times, and it takes FOREVER! it's just not worth it. i guess i just can't make any more playlists unless somebody knows how to fix this without starting over. this ipod has caused so many problems (ie, the "unhappy ipod", the clicking noises, the ipod all of a sudden wiping of ALL ten gigs of my music out, losing my dvd drive-yes, the DVD drive, for some reason, when i tried to get rid of itunes, i was unable to use either of my drives-the cd or dvd, and i had to reinstall itunes. etc etc.) and finally i get it working, i'm not gonna mess with a good thing. i guess i'm not ever going to get the full benefit of the ipod like apple says i should.

Actually, the little experience that I've had with Apple retail stores is pretty good, especially compared to Best Buy...
(as you pointed out...)
