I was getting the raptor because I've bene told it's great to get a really fast small drive for windows and apps, and then a bigger, cheaper one for data...

I know it's pricey but I figured it would be worth it... is it?

As for the vid card, I wont be playing too many games really, so I figured I would just go with something like that...

A small drive for windows? 150GB isnt small. get a 36.7GB drive. That'll save you over $100. It's only windows that really benefits from faster load times. Other apps load quick enough for yoto notice any difference.

If your not gaming and using this for mainly music production then there are a few areas you can save moeny in.

for starters is there any need to go as high with the processor as the E6600, at the end of the day it will probably be overkill for your needs, i'd say an E6400 would do the job perfectly well and at $100+ less.

Also I am a lover of the p180, i have it and its a fantastic case, cool and quiet but you could probably save there as well, its really handy to have such a cool case for overclocking etc but plenty of cheaper cases will do the job you need it to, possibly anohter $50 saving there.

does it need a 550w PSU? that gfx card aint gonna suck much power and for $20 you could get a 480w of the same make..

and agreed with the almightyone about the raptor, get a smaller one 36.67 or 75gb one to save some money, that way you can have OS and essential programs on that and the other drive for storage. 150gb version is overkill

just little suggestions to possibly reduce your costs, any one else have any thoughts?

Hey thx, I am changing some stuff up now...

As far as the PSU, I'm gettinga $15 rebate on a 90 dollar 550w, so I would only be saving 5 bucks to go to the 480w...

I definatly would like to find a cheaper case tho, but i thought that u needed to spend over 100 for a good one... I definatly wont be overclocking, shit i dont even know what that is...

could u reccomend a case for cheaper that has good cooling, lots of bays, and is easy for a FIRST TIME computer builder to build??

thc

fair point on the psu

i'm by no means an expert on cases, i love my p180 but it is expensive and plenty of others can give decent cooling for cheaper, probably something like a cooler master centurion would do the job.

i'm sure some others here can point you in the right direction
