I tried the ZA free version(very limited) and took that off fast to go with the Jetico. So far I haven't had a chance to try the Kerio or Sygate while hearing better things about both over ZA. Another favored freeware is Comodo.

Kerio and Sygate are both definitely, from personal experience, better than Zone Alarm, so that cancels ZA out. As for which is the better of the two out of Kerio and Sygate, well, Sygate and Kerio are both brilliant firewalls but I would have to say that Kerio offers way more in the sense of configuring, information and settings. Although Sygate is just as good but not as hard to get used to. Right now I favour Sygate over Kerio.

I dunno about Sygate, been awhile since I used it but I know for an absolute fact that you can set it up to run anal-retentive-white-listing mode (and in the 3000+ rules-by-IP and counting)
