Default connecting laptop to tv

ok my laptop doesnt have an s-video but it has a vga thing and so does my tv...i plugged a blue vga cable from my laptop to tv with no problem..picture is good...but how do i get the sound to come out of the tv speakers instead of the laptop speakers...i took the speaker cable from my dekstop monitor that went to my desktop pc and hooked em up from the laptop speaker port to the tv speaker port..still the sound comes from the laptop...any one know?
