Default Old RM school computer from skip!

Hi there!

Well, me and my friend have got a few of last years school computers that used to run as RM things.

Ive found all the neccesary plugs and leads, and it turns on no probs.
However, each time, i end up with "operating system not found" in white writing on a black background.

This doesnt surprise me, as the computers used to run connected to a large server thing in school.

I am hoping maybe to get this computer working for my grandad, perhaps with windows, if it can be salvaged.

I have looked up about "reformatting a computer" on the internet, but i don't tihnk i have the neccesary stuff to do this.

Basically, any suggestions on how to get it going!

All the very best
Andy

Your hard drive is dead, get a new one or try the one from your pc to see if the problem definatly is the hard. (actually I'd suggest you do that first) Also be careful who you tell about this someone could think it is stolen.

The Board not being able to find the O.S doesn't neseceraly mean its dead, could be that the things just got corrupted and the school couldn't be arsed to sort it out and chucked the system out.

Go into the BIOS and have a look to see if the drive is detected, you could probably put a linux distro on it like Ubuntu or Mandrake if you're short of cash.

@geek_0001
Lets make sure we have, at the very least, "strong evidence to suggest" before we make such sweeping (and often, incorrect) statements

@briggfoot
What are the specs of the machines involved
