Question Is this a problem with the HDD?

Hey,

My Mum has a laptop and when she booted it last night it stopped loading everything once the wallpaper image had loaded and that was it, nothing else!

So, I started it in 'Safe Mode' and tried a full virus scan and found nothing...

When trying to start Windows normally it take ages to load up and when it does it gets to the wallpaper again, nothing... Once though I did get a black screen telling me to back-up the HDD because there could be a problem...

Whats the matter? Is the HDD done with?

Thanks!
