Lightbulb A Laptop Need: Low Spec, Unix Platform, Linux Hardware Combatability

I am really anxious to buy a new, low-spec laptop with a Unix platform and hardware that is Linux-combatible.

My only problem is: I don't know where to get one?? I mean, is there a website that allows the customer to customize a laptop and place an order for it? that would be amazzzing!!

I know people have built Pc's, but is there a way to build laptops? My brother says you can't do it, and that he's never heard of building laptops from scratch. i find it hard to believe him, tho...

dell.com, hp.com, and lots of other websites let you customize laptops. i dont think you can build from scratch unless you're an uber-expert, but you can choose what they build for you. just find a low-spec laptop and upgrade as needed.

if i am not mistaken, hp and dell only supports windows xp and windows-combatible hardware.
there may be hardware that supports both linux and windows, though

I googled "lenovo linux"...
As of June 02, 2006:
Computer maker Lenovo will not install or support the Linux operating system on any of its PCs, including ThinkPads and a series of new notebooks, the company said this week (http://www.crn.com/sections/infrastr...eId=188701277).
