Default presario 2100 RAM's out

I've got big problem with my fathers laptop, Compaq presario 2100. It doesn't function quite as well as it should. I formatted it 3 days ago because of uncle bill's genuine advantage and i have installed the legal xp. That's where it went wrong.

somehow the system manages to run slow and even hang for about 40 seconds sometimes. I've looked at the ram and the laptop says that there 448 mb present while it should be 512. so i'm missing 64mb could this be the problem its not the ram cards because they each produce 192 m seperately.
can someone help me fix this problem

The 64MB is being used for your video card, that is perfectly normal.

Have you checked for virii? Do so.

Do you have all the proper XP updates?

What are the rest of the specs?

OK, so your computer is plenty fast enough to run this.

I strongly think that this is a virus problem. Are you connected to the internet? Do a virus scan. Or, if you don't have anti-virus software, download Avast.

Default thanks

been busy formatting again today, virus scan didn't do the trick, maybe it had something to do with it though. I also installed service pack 2 now my other computer runs pretty smooth on it, so I hope I'm not gonna have do anything drastic real soon. Anyway, thanks for the help I appreciate it.

greetings frank
