Default Got An Annoying Problem

Have a problem with my Acer Laptop that i can't seem to cure. When i am using it for games every minute or so the laptop will appear to load something which pauses the game i am playing, best descibed as a stutter if the game contains speech or a brief pause in an FPS etc. I have been into msconfig and turned everything off but although the bootup is a tad quicker it doesn't do anything else.

Also when i am just carrying out tasks on the desktop i hear the occasional click (the noise made by windows when you select something or open something) so i know an event is secretly working in the background.

While i am also here where can i obtain drivers for it's graphics card? The Acer support page has 2005 drivers and the ones on the ATI website don't seem to install, says i have no such card.

Thanks, any help would be great.
