Default download audio files... news stories.

okay so my uncle can go to www.mpr.org and listen to news stories, as audio files... but he can't download them. he wants to get them in file form. he suggested using a microphone, and simply recording the output from the speaker. this would degrade the quality a lot, and he's wondering if there's any way he can get the original file.
any help is appreciated.

You could find a device with line-in recording, I believe some mp3 players have this.

Try right clicking on the file link then save target as.
If that doesn't work you may find them in the temp files.

But I do believe that the Jobs name and the Macintosh apple with a chunk out of it could sell wet wood to someone trying to start a fire these days.
