If the sound quality is good enough for you ( because it definately isnt bad.

If you just use the green port to connect to a stereo system, your not getting surround sound, its simply splitting that signal to the different speakers.
If you really wanted a good way to hook up your home theater system to your computer, you would get a sound card that either has Digital out, or RCA outputs.

Ya, I"m using a, what is it..... a stereo adapter so I guess I wouldn't be using it to it's full potential.... But I am considering using headphones for games like CS:S.... It always helps to hear footsteps....

I got my X-Fi Extreme and I love it!
I totally recommend it, specially if you want to setup 7.1 at a later time.
