Default Maxtor External Harddrive problems...

Hey everyone, so the problem I'm having is, my friend let me borrow his parents external harddrive because they put the video of our band playing on it, and I wanted to show my cousins it. Now my problem is is that, XP will say the new hardware is installed and I have installed everything off the instalation disk, and the drive shows up on my computer, it is labelled as the F: drive. So I know it is there, but it always comes up with this error when I try and acces it "F:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".

So basically I don't know what that means so any help from anyone to help me figure out how i can get this working would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

THanks everyone
Jared
