Default I can't log on to MSN messenger. HELP!

Everytime I try to log in to MSN Live Messenger, it says that my firewall and/or proxy settings is preventing me from loggin in. I have checked the messenger to be allowed in my firewall, thus I should be able to log in, but I still can't. Is there anything I can do? My laptop that is giving me the trouble is a HP Pavilion. Thanks!

ok, two things 2 do that should help alot

1. make sure that the built in windows firewall is turned off as it is a piece of junk.

2. get rid of norton internet security, norton is one of the pieces of software to stay away from.

I use AVG Anti-virus with built in firewall and have never had any problem, with programs getting access, that i have allowed

This is exactly what it says:

“Sorry, we are unable to sign you into Windows Live Messenger at this time. Please try again later.

Windows Live Messenger has made several failed attempts to sign you in. Your firewall may be blocking Windows Live Messenger from connecting to the service. Please review your firewall settings. See the retailer’s instructions for more information.

Error Code: 80072efd”

There's nothing wrong with Window's Firewall. It's certainly better than nothing and it certainly isn't the problem.

First, Norton is junk. So, let's start there and see what happens. Download the removal tool from Symantec and remove all traces of Norton. See what happens. If it solves the problem I would recommend putting Zone Alarm on instead.

Yup, completely right. This is what stopped me once, from logging in. Also, it's not just the time, it's also the date and year
