Goto CONTROL PANEL and SOUNDS and AUDIO DEVICE (or something like that) under the sound tab and SOUND SCHEME check there is Windows Defalt and not "no sounds" and also try playing it. As for Youtube is the volume up?

Quite odd, try going to Volume Control (Start > all programs > Accessories > Entertainment) and OPTIONS > PROPERTIES > enable all > OK and then turn them all up. HTH.

*EDIT* - make sure non are on mute.

plugging the speakers in the back, and my headphones in the front. the speakers can only go in the back and the headphones can only go in the front. just a reminder that i still can hear windows media player and dvds on my speakers - just not internet or system sounds. so i think its most likely a computer problem than a hardware problem

Try speakers in the front and they SHOULD work, maybe you could try a driver update, how long has this problem occured and what have you done since then?
