Default Operating system SCREWED UP BAD

Iight so heres the deal i got a new computer and the ping started acting up on the games i was playing. My friend then suggested to reinstal the operating system so i did but i didnt put the cd in from the begining i put my computer on first then went to my computer and installed it from their. After that it reinstalled and it would start up again but would not move the loading bar after that. Then after it didnt move for a bit i got pissed cause i was waiting for 15 minutes. So i shut it off. Plus to top it all off i can only change the bios and not choose weither to do regular windows xp or windows xp setup when it first starts up wat do i do?

What you need to do is setup your bios so that it will boot from cd rom first. Put your Windows CD in the optical drive and boot your computer. It should start the Instal Process.

There is no need to install a new hard drive... Also a bad ping while playing online games usually has everything to do with your Internet connection... Possibly spyware/virus that is actively sending information over your network.

Just so that you know... It did not install at this point, It copied files to your hard drive and would have started the OS install on the reboot if it was able to make it. You actually should still be able to boot the old OS from the information you have given.

Your friend is a stupid person,it was most likely your internet connection, the game server, or you were on a server from another country.

At the present you could boot from the installation cd if your board has the F8 boot menu option to choose the cd drive rather then changing any bios settings. The next step would be to try the option to repair the current installation to see if corrects this. Otherwise you may have to choose the delete current in order to see fresh new installation go on.

It sounds like it toasted your boot sector.

If you have a DOS disk handy you can try an FDISK /MBR on it to see if that will allow you to start booting again, but I think that Blue has the right idea.

Just boot off the CD and repartition, reformat and reinstall. (The three R's.. lol)

There really is no sense screwing around with it at this point. I mean, anything is possible, but I have a peculiar feeling at the end of it that you are just going to end up formatting anyways.

Might as well do it right the first time and then reinstall all your apps. Besides, you have to love that freshly installed feeling anyways.
