Unhappy Need help with install

Well its my first time putting in a vid card. I put in a pny 7300gt into my HP a1510n i just bought. it doesnt seem to have power, i know the power comes from the pci-ex16 slot and yes i have it in the right slot, i installed the drivers and told the comp to run from the card in setup, but it still wont work. somehow i have a feeling its not getting power at all, any ideas?

You need a 6 pin power cord to plug from the power supply to the MOBO to give the card power. This is a must as you cannot get power to it any other way unless there is a power adapter on the card itself. if you do not have the 6 pin, but have a 4 pin there is a cheep and inexpensive adapter you can buy that makes a 4 pin to six pin. 4 pin is for AGP, as 6 pin is for PCI-E

i dont see any place for a power connector. My installation manual is for several cards, but it says if there is a power connector it would be at the end near the mobo and there is no connectors there... or anywhere else on the board fr what i can see.

Then you may need a new MOBO...But how many watts is you power supply? it will have a number then a "W" after it. If its below 400W then there's your problem. You may have enough power if you have over 400W to supply, but you over all will need a 6 pin power. But put that aside for a moment, what is your Watts?

the power connector would be on the motherboard, not the card. what video card did you have in there before? did you get this card new?

unless he has onboard, the old one has to be removed first, dude. a removal wouldn't count as an install. if there was a card there that he is upgrading, this would count as a first install. that would also tell us the 6 prong plug is probably already plugged in in order to run the original. that's why i asked if it was a new card. it could be dead.

dude.
