Default power supply or mobo or processor

i have an amd xp 2800 clone and it has been down for some time. at first i thought that the mobo was ba but now i'm not so sure. when i turn on the machine the screen stays blank (it doesn't turn on), and i don't hear the mobo beep. i have taken it apart numerous times, and can find nothing apperently wrong. my ps has a small 4 pin plug hooked to the board, what is that, and can i use a name brand ps form a dell? please reply fast!!!

Does the machine power up and only the screen doesnt turn on? If so it could be your video card.

What video card do you have? did you plug in the extra power for it if it needs it? does your motherbord have onbaord video? try plugging the monitor into it you might have to change it to other video in the bios.
