Exclamation What exactly is a "LAN party"?

What is a LAN party? I here about them all the time, but I have no idea what in the world they are! Someone help please!!!

It's when a bunch of people gather in a single location, and play games together. These can be on small scales, like 5-10 people in a small building, or a large event with hundreds to thousands of people.

That is just not true. A more accurate statement would be "It is a party where your less likely to run into women". Many chicks play games and I have seen many LAN party picks with women. There are just far less then men.

Why not? A LAN party is to get together and play video games... It's a much different kind of party then a "regular" party. Do you never just get together with male friends and play video games? I cannot think of a much better way to do so then to attend a LAN party.
