DUal monitor setups have been use for some time with older Atholon XP type and P2 cpus to answer one question there. As far as contrast and brightness that is something adjusted on each monitor. A dual core cpu offers the support for multitasking when running one large app while having other programs running in the background.

The software for the video card or installed program like unimon is what either extends the desktop or clones it. That is what you would use to enable/disable multiple displays.

For contrast and brightness you are probably going to have to adjust each monitor in order to get the match by tweaking the settings on them. The support site will have the general information as well as the help files that should have been included on the software disk. Are you running ATI or NVidia type cards?
