I would think the cpu fan would shut off when going into standby. Why? Is it still on?

You should be able to assign a letter to the partition in most partioning programs. I know you can do it with Acronis Disk Director Suite (that's the only program I've used first hand).

Open up your computer and then put it on standby. If your cpu fan shuts off, it's all good.

You can change your drive letters in disk management by right clicking the drive in question and click on change drive letters and paths.

To get to disc management right click my computer and click manage the click on disck management at the bottom then choose your disk on the right.
