Anyway... you may have noticed the little issue on the 3dmark06 topic (luckily they deleted that part it seems).. now,.. i dont have a suggestion for that,..but a question. How was i supposed to clear that mess out and stay on topic? i tried ignoring at first.. but he kept continuing.. i asked him just to cut it, but he kept going. Sorry if i caused trouble on that topic,. and all i can say is... you Mod's did a really good job clearing out that mess.
again.. sorry if i caused trouble with that.. but he really started to annoy me but.. what can i do to prevent something like that to happen again? ( i dont hope for something like that to happen again... but then.. "Hope for the best, excpect the worst" you get the point i gues)

Don't worry about it, you handled it fairly well. Basically, if someone acts like that towards you, you should immediately report it to a member of staff and then dont reply to the topic again, leave it completely, then your certain not to get caught up in it.

No worries, dragon

You can add any member to your ignore list if needed. Also if the member takes it a step further and gets abusive, you should report him/her so that he/she can be dealt with.

I do think that the mods should talk to each other before closing a thread.

WOW didnt see that dragon

*EDIT* - Thanks for that armpit, your request is being dealt with.
Whilst sometimes threads are discussed on whether or not they should be closed, most of the time the moderator of that particular section just makes the decision then and there.
Some threads are reopened, and I should also point out, that whilst threads will continue to be closed from time, I have requested that a bit more freedom be allowed in off topic chat and that threads not be closed so often.

there will be no post count requirement to post in off topic chat, also posts in off topic chat will count towards overall post count.

Mods should not be allowed to enter into any debate on any topic. The reason is simple. They have the ability to abuse their power and shut down the thread after making their jabs. Don't say it won't happen. It already has.

Mods should be suspended or their status revoked if they are caught flaming other members (calling someone an idiot comes to mind). Mods should be setting an example to everyone else. If they can't do that, they have no business being a moderator IMO.

Off Topic forum should be handled just like the Buy and Sell forum. A minimum 100 posts to participate.

The buy and sell forum should be approval only. No thread gets posted without approval by a mod first. On the same token, there should be no commercial advertising allowed. Private sales only.

All attempts at spam should not only be locked, the member should be banned and the link immediately removed. Posts that are suspect are first time posters that post a link and say "Is this legit?". Rather obvious. Especially the one I exposed as a fraud. The problem is is that Google indexes your threads, and this increases exposure for the spammer, increases his link backs and thus boosts his ranking. These people should not be given that satisfaction.

Members should have at least 100 posts before they are allowed to post links and images. This will significantly decrease the amount of spam you receive without having to be on top of the pricks.

I do not think activity should be decreased to the OT forum other than a minimum number of posts. Encourage the traffic. Threads of "I'm leaving" (nobody gives a shit) or "I'm bored" (yes, I posted one once) or anything similar should be deleted on sight.

Links should not be allowed in sigs at all. This will prevent arbitrary enforcement of the rules and prevent people from unfairly being singled out.

An appeal program should be put in place via software whereby an offender can click on the appeal button in an official warning and be forwarded to a private forum where s/he can launch an appeal process to be reviewed by staff and senior staff collectively. This forum should be made so that only the appellant and the staff can read their individual thread.

There are a couple of ideas. I have to go to the store with my wife. If I think of anything else I'll add them later.
Moderators will continue to be involved in any debate. From time to time moderators may make a harsh comment. For the record, I do address these kinds of issues, but when a moderator has made 1,000's of posts, all at a professional level and makes the odd questionable comment, I will always ignore any complaint. Things need to be kept in perspective and people need to remember that they are volunteering to help keep the community free of spam and illegal stuff etc etc I dont think any special conditions should be imposed upon moderators that dont apply to everyone else.
The link issue in signatures is currently being reviewed, as is the general rules, hopefully they will be updated soon. Links will still be allowed, but there will be a clearer definition of what is allowed.
With infractions, you can just email a mod or admin if you think an unfair decision has been made. There are avenues for appeal.
I think spam is handled fairly well here, as to commercial sites not being allowed to post in computer equipment for sale, that is currently the rule that is being enforced.

See, no offence Ian, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Moderators represent the board. I know it's a lot to ask, but they need to set an example. They can't really attack others, even if it's just one post, and then expect to be able to enforce the rules. That is setting a double standard in my eyes. Naturally, by the very nature of the position, they are stopping others from exhibiting that behaviour. It doesn't seem right that they should be able to exhibit it themselves. Other people also make thousands of posts, if not more, but that does not give them a carte blanche to break the rules, right?

Anyways, it's totally up to you obviously. Just my 2 cents on it.

Just a quick suggestion to see what other people think.

I think there should be an Official Video Thread. Where people can post all the videos they think are funny. We get threads sometimes of the stupidest videos. I think it would help clean things up.
