My new mobo doesn't have locks on anything, such as the fsb and the agp/pci and is already on it's highest multiplier, so..... how dangerous is it to overclock evrything else?

The highest you can actually go depends on where it runs stable. Individual hardwares have to be tweaked as you go along. Monitoring temps will be the first to add to the list there since you will be stressing each device. Do you have money to replace any hardwares that let go?
The newer boards are far more OC friendly. That is the main reason why you are not seeing locks on multipliers or anything else. Some will back down voltages on one thing to OC another. Adequate cooling is a must. |

the agp/pci is on the highest multyplier by default i think.. you can lower that multiplier when you raise the fsp to overclock your pc. because AGP and Pci cards really dont like beeing overclocked.. they run unstable way too fast

More problems are seen from video cards overheated when games crash then driver problems it seems. The only time to push a video card is when you have a big vpu freezer installed. You can get water cooling setups for cards alone.
You don't OC sound cards. So that leaves one bad idea out. They will simply cook too fast for anything like that. That would be sound blasted rather then anything else. "my card cooked! !" The last Audigy2 ZS Gamer here cooked at stock alone. Well that did put me into the Audigy 4 Pro.

well... you dont overclock a video card by overclocking the AGP speed... you merely Turn up the interface speed between the motherboard and grafic's card then.

I well aware of that being a board tweak there. But when you start stepping the voltage up a notch to 1.6v or 1.7v the vpu is going to get pretty warm in a short period of time. But there's always something to cool a vpu with like the Artic Cooling model seen at http://www.coolerguys.com/840556035527.html

You would leave that at the defaults and go for the OC on the board, memory, and of course the cpu. You may want to look over one article on OCing the AMD64 line of cpus. The link for it here has a few good tips along with some other links. The article did use the 3000+ there however. http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...4oc/index.html
You may want to correct your sig there. The 3400+ is a 2.2ghz model venice core cpu. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103023 Last edited by PC eye; 10-05-2006 at 03:28 AM. |

Another question...... My mobo does have a form of a memory clock as you can put a max on the fequency. I set it to 200 Mhz and OC my FSB to 205 Mhz. My bios says my mem freq. is at 200 Mhz but CPU-z and EasyTune5 say otherwise..... which is correct?
Btw, my sig is correct as it is..... My CPU is a Newscastle with a default clock at 2.4 Ghz.....

The cpu host clock control is what to look for as well as the cpu host frequency. Review page #40 in the manual at http://america.giga-byte.com/FileLis...m800m_2x_e.pdf
