help formating laptop

Hi everyone, I have an IBM R31 laptop with windows xp home on it and a 20gb hard drive. I cannot seem to format my hard drive does anyone know how I do it right.

You can't do it during Windows setup?

there should be an option during windows setup, are you booting from the xp cd?
