Default Buildin a pc for a friend..lots of parts

well my friend has three pc towers one gateway select 1100 , Gateway essential 433c , and a compaq presario 6000. I want to use the select1100 case becasue its bigger for expansion..the only big question i have it is no matter what hard drive i hook up to it , when it boots i keep getting a small blinking dash in the top left corner screen.. im not sure what it means. is something inside the case no propertly hooked up? or is it something else. i tried 4 hard drives and no luck. i came to you guys for expert help. thanks again..any questions on specs or anything please ask.

usually means a hdd or os problem make sure your jumpers are set correctly that you have an os installed and if you are trying to install one make sure you told it to boot from cd

But I do believe that the Jobs name and the Macintosh apple with a chunk out of it could sell wet wood to someone trying to start a fire these days.

my comp has that, too, but thats because i disabled the system diognostics in the BIOS, but after about 10 seconds it boots up.

maybe your connecting the HDD wrong, do you have one or 2 hdd's?
try connecting them into the different plugs...
