Default Can't upgrade from Directx 9.0b to 9.0c

I downloaded it, installed it.
I run dxdiag....it still says it's 9.0b
and that the file qasf.dll is old and could cause problems (which is why I'm trying to upgrade)

You can try and uninstall older DirectX with a non-official software and then install fresh DirectX 9.0c.

DirectX Uninstaller 0.13
DirectX 9 Uninstaller

I've searched some forums and it's a common problem.

I wouldn't get yourself into a panic on that. The difference between 9b and 9c is so small you would never notice it. The qasf.dll is found in the "C:\Windows\system32\" folder. With DX 9c here the name of the file is the same. Simply right click on it when found to delete it and go to the download page at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...U%2baBkg%3d%3d

Well if you can't get those to work, there are plenty of DirectX unistallers out there, just google them. (make sure you uninstall it in SAFE MODE)

Hey shady, Here's a freeware to give a try. This is supposed to good for all version of Windows. Direct X Eradicator 2.0 is free at http://www.softpedia.com/get/Securit...adicator.shtml

If that doesn't work there's a shareware version of Direct X Happy Uninstall at http://www.majorgeeks.com/DirectX_Ha...all_d4347.html

When one of these removes DX 9b go for the 9c version at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...UtN7g4Cg%3d%3d

Direct X is a little different since it gets embedded into Windows itself. I'm still little surprised you had that kind of problem since it usually goes right on and you never have to worry about. But others have run into the same type of problem when trying to move up a version. I have seen the one at the second link on several occasions. But that's a try to buy item there. Give the first one a try and we'll wait to hear from you.
