Default activity storage location

I notice that pages once opened activate faster the second time. This is purported to be the function of temp internet and cookies. When I delete temp, temp internet, and cookies these pages still open faster the second time. Evidentally there is another location where they are stored. I also experience a gradual slowdown in windows, possibly a result of continued additions to these files. Where are these located and how can they be deleted short of reformatting my hard drive?

If you are using Windows XP and Internet Explorer, the temp internet files are located in C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. But even if you delete them once,Internet Explorer will continue to store temporary files each time you visit websites, this is why they open fater the 2nd time. It's called caching and it is supposed to be a good thing for users because it reduces the time a wepage takes to load.

Are you talking about refreshing it through the browser the second time once you have opened the page the first time? If so, once you open it again, even if you have deleted them already, they're all there again.

Other than those, there are other files that can accumulate overtime that you may not notice either. You can go to START>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup and let it run through to see if you can recover anything. Then, you can go to Disk Cleanup again, and this time, move over to the "more optoins" tab, which you can see here:

and cleanup those files too if any are present.
