This can happen even when installing XP or another older version where the drive is taxed from the need to restart the system several times in order to complete not only the installation but all of the updates and hard drivers/softares you install. A weak drive worn will start sounding louder as it approaches failure. If you start hearing any clicking sounds you know the drive's read/write heads are tapping against the platters. Other drives will simply quit without that beiong heard. Sounds like it's starting to bind up there.
