best laptop spec for fast internet access only

Hi,

This question seems to be a common one in a way.

But I am looking for the best components for fast internet browsing.

I am not worries about graphics, video, or sound. Wont be doing anything but browsing.

I run a wireless system at home, 54mbps and usually have a 80% signal most of the time.

I have a 1mb int access through my cable tv box with NTL UK.

Any suggestions about which components are most important. I understand that th speed is governed by the slowest component.

So,

What processor speed?

What Ram?

What hard drive size?

Any tweeking ideas?

I am not brilliant on technical stuff, but am generally pretty good with the PC.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I dont want to spend a fortune if possible.

If you are only doing browsing and now gaming and watching movies then you wont need an expensive laptop. You should probably look for a Dual Core AMD or Intel processor with at least 512MB of RAM. Probably want around a 40gig hard drive for your files. Probably something like this
That is probably the best you will need but you could get away with a little less than that.

You really can't buy a faster pc to get faster internet. It really just depends on the provider and your internet hardwares. Such as, the modem, the router, and possibly the wires and ethernet/usb port.

As far as your setup now, what is your router and modem?

a decent cpu will do, nothing powerful. as said, at least 512mb of ram. Also, a small hard drive will do, less than 40 gb will do plenty.

I agree with a123 to be honest. Also I would suggest you to read articles on how to buy a laptop on my site, it may help you make a decission.
