RAM for a dell 6400

Hey I have a Dell 6400 (see sig) and wanted to buy an additional GB of Ram.
Will I notice it? I use it for gaming, and music mainly (at the same time usually).
Can you buy this from a shop?
Also I am from Australian but my dad will be spending a few days in LA, USA next march so could he pick it up there and save some money?
Would it be easy for him to do this?

If your laptop supports it,go ahead and buy it you will notice the difference.
