Could someone please help
Yesterday I upgraded from Norton Antivirus 2002 to 2007 using a downlaod, and since then I have not been able to send email. I can receive OK. When I send a email, I get a message saying that the server has rejected it with lot of error codes. When I contacted the server they said everything is OK. Which I tend to believe. Norton say they can take upto 48 hours to respond I have switched all of the items in Norton off. If I delete Norton I may have trouble re-installing because it was a download. I cannot even contact Norton support without a email |

Honestly, my advice is to get rid of Norton altogether. You may still be able to get a refund at this point.
I'm not saying this just to bash Norton, but from my own experience Norton is a huge resource hog; taking a long time to load and generally slowing the computer down. It has also been shown to not be as effective as many other programs (including many free programs) and I wouldn't be surprised if there was malware designed to target a Windows system with Norton (that is just aguess). That being said, their are several very good, free antivirus programs out there. AVG and Antivir, both of which I use, have free versions as well as Avast and several others (check out the security 101 sticky here for a few more). As to your question, my guesss is you have to set up your firewall to allow your email prgoram to run properly. If email works when Norton is "off" that is definatelyt the problem. I can't ecall exactly how, but their should be a way to "allow" trusted applications in the firewall settings.

He already paid for it though, seems like a waste. Yeah, I would say get rid of it also.

If he bought it recently, he may be able to get a refund due to it not working.

Actually, Avast! destroys AVG and Zone Alarm is completely unnecessary and a pain in the ass to boot. Get rid of that Norton junk even if you have to eat the bucks you spent and switch to Avast! Save yourself a lot of headaches.

Thanks all,
It seems that I made a bad move upgrading Norton. I certainly will not renew it again. Just to update you, through no efford of my own the system started working OK again, so possibly I was harsh on Norton. I can only assume that the server was not doing its job even though they said it was OK, and after paying a premium rate on the help line they fixed it. I am not happy with the Norton situation of downloading the software when there is no apparent way to save it for future backup. Norton is asking for an extra charge when ordering, so that it can be downloaded again a few months in to future, where as if I bought it over the counter I would have a CD. By the way the Norton support still never got back to me. Possibly I should stop payment to my VISA card |
