Default External Sound Card

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a good external sound card for my laptop. I have the Creative Xtreme Music for my desktop and Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers. I also have AKG K240s headphones that I use occasionally. I'll be using the same speakers and headphones but I want an external sound card that will provide equal, if not better, sound quality. If you guys know of anything please let me know.

Also, it would be great if the external sound card was also compatible with mac.

Thanks.

I should add that this sound card would be used primarily for music, not gaming.

I've searched the forum and haven't found anything that looks comparable, much less better than the xtreme music. Should I give up looking? Would something like this http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_u...eUSB-main.html be at all what I'm looking for? I know it isn't exactly a sound card.

I've sen that recomended in a few threads but it doesn't seem like it would live up to the quality of the xtreme music (which I'm now used to), thanks though. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I can spend up to around $150, more if I have to.

oops, i also saw the "it would be great if it was compatible with a mac part" and missed the laptop part.

Anyways, for notebooks, something like this would be good.
