I put in my new hard drive yesterday and that is working fine but now my dvd burner errors out whenever I try to make a dvd backup using either hard drive. Any help is greatly appreciated
This is the error message I get: "Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 11:35:32 AM Nero API version: 6.6.0.19 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 19d Recorder: <TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M>Version: SB01 - HA 1 TA 1 - 6.6.0.19 Adapter driver: <nvidesm> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1600JS-60MHB5 10.0 SI3112r Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1200JB-00DUA3 75.1 nvidesm Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON DVD SHD-16P1S GS05 nvidesm Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SH-S182MSB01 nvidesm Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M E: CDRom1 LITE-ON DVD SHD-16P1S D: CDRom0 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 511MB (523760kB) Free physical memory: 117MB (120020kB) Memory in use : 77 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 19.10.2006 NeroAPI 10:36:45 PM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation started 10:36:45 PM #2 Phase 114 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 10:36:45 PM #3 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files sorted 10:36:46 PM #4 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 10:36:46 PM #5 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M running 10:36:46 PM #6 Text 0 File AudioCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 842 DRM: StartDrmRecording(RealRec:1, ImageRec:0, Copies:1) DRM: Beginning burn process. 10:36:46 PM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 10:36:46 PM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 10:36:46 PM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 10:36:46 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 272 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2286111 (508:01.36, 4465MB) 10:36:46 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 284 Write in overburning mode: NO 10:36:46 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2494 Recorder: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: SONY16 - D1 Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 10:36:46 PM #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 450 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 10:36:46 PM #14 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2286112 (2286112) = #2286112/508:1.37 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2286112 blocks [TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M] -------------------------------------------------------------- 10:36:47 PM #15 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; I don't have the patience to read all that gibberish, but are they on separate cables?

Have you tried unplugging your new HDD drive and tried using your DVD drive? If it works, we can isolate the problem to being a conflict between the DVD drive and HDD.
Maybe your HDD make doesnt like your DVD drive. Try another HDD and see whether that works so we can further isolate the problem... Another crazy idea - do you think your PSU is pumping out enough power to feed both drives? (This is probably not the problem. Try my first two suggestions).

I unplugged my new hard drive completely and the dvd burner still errors...so if I'm correct that cancels out the three possibilities you just mentioned.
I should have mentioned this earlier, but I replaced my regular (but very old) dvd-rom with a new one at the same time I put in my new HDD but did not change the cable configuration. Could this have something to do with my problem? Last edited by RedStal95; 10-22-2006 at 08:16 PM. |

The jumpers should be right - if they were wrong, the drive wouldnt even be detected.
My verdict = Try the same HDD and DVD burner with another comp to eliminate motherboard compatability problems... Good luck
