Default Put in new hard drive...now DVD burner does not work

I put in my new hard drive yesterday and that is working fine but now my dvd burner errors out whenever I try to make a dvd backup using either hard drive. Any help is greatly appreciated

This is the error message I get:

I don't have the patience to read all that gibberish, but are they on separate cables?

Is your new HDD SATA or IDE?

Have you tried unplugging your new HDD drive and tried using your DVD drive? If it works, we can isolate the problem to being a conflict between the DVD drive and HDD.

Maybe your HDD make doesnt like your DVD drive. Try another HDD and see whether that works so we can further isolate the problem...

Another crazy idea - do you think your PSU is pumping out enough power to feed both drives? (This is probably not the problem. Try my first two suggestions).

I unplugged my new hard drive completely and the dvd burner still errors...so if I'm correct that cancels out the three possibilities you just mentioned.

I should have mentioned this earlier, but I replaced my regular (but very old) dvd-rom with a new one at the same time I put in my new HDD but did not change the cable configuration.

Could this have something to do with my problem?

I don't know what "right" is, but I set them the same as they were with the dvd rom I replaced.

The jumpers should be right - if they were wrong, the drive wouldnt even be detected.

My verdict = Try the same HDD and DVD burner with another comp to eliminate motherboard compatability problems...

Good luck
