You unscrew the screws. Just take them all out.

May I ask why?

LCD screen has a image but it is so dark that you can hardly see it. I was going to repace the inverter. If I connect to a monitor the image is fine. That tells me the video is ok.

I've taken all the screws out but the LCD won't lift out of the laptop top cover. And I can't figure what is holding it.

Probably tape/glue/sticky stuff. That's how mine is held in, it's an awful pain to do it without breaking the plastic.

well after you get the screen assembly off the laptop you have to take it apart. There should be screws holding down the hinges on it. There should also be a screw holding down the wifi antenna (if applicable) and one holding down the power/video connector.

A lot of times you can just take the face of the screen off with out actually taking the screen off. Remove the rubber tabs on your screen, they should actually be hidden screws under and that is how to take the assembly apart, there will also be some parts that snap apart/together.
