It is probably the file system, it is prob NTFS, and ME will only read up to FAT32. You are out of luck there.

Since ME was the followup of the 9X family the most likely reason is that the usb drivers needed were knocked out. Unlike the improvements with the hardware detection seen in XP ME was an upgrade from 98SE. That saw a lot of fun at times with usb devices even external drives. At least you are able to retrieve data and files from it while connected to your system. That shows that the drive's partition is intact.

The first thing to know is what was used in formatting the drive. Is that currently a Fat32 partition on the drive formatted by fdisk or was it originally formatted with the Disk Management in XP? XP will readily read off of Fat32 as well as NTFS partitions.
The problem for not being able to see the drive on the ME system is more likely a loss of usb support if originally bought for use there. Fat32 would already been inplace while the drive's partition was probably lost. Make sure usb 2.0 support is on the ME system. The main page for that model drive is seen at http://www.simpletech.com/commercial...eexternal.html |

Well, sort of. There are no Microsoft tools to do it, but Partition Magic will do it. Unfortunately backwards conversions can be real unreliable and can completely trash your data. The only other way is to wipe the partition and start fresh, creating a FAT32 partition from the get go.
